"DESIGN...IS EVERYTHING."

- Paul Rand

Paul Rand was a modern digital artist who believed that “design is… everything” and to me that rings so true. Everything we see is designed for us to react to. Whether it's something that is supposed to make you remember what brand something is or a movie that is supposed to make you feel sad and think about your life and how you’re living; ultimately it was designed with a purpose. It’s that purpose in design that has a deeper meaning to everyday life than people may realize. It’s hard for me to explain where I’m going with this, but I feel that without art or design our world would be so bland and boring that we would not have the amazing creations and creative works we see now. We would all have the same mentality and would all wear the same clothes… to me… that would be a very boring place to live.

Paul has also stated, "There are no formulas in creative work. I do many variations, which is a question of curiosity. I arrive at many different configurations-some just slight variations, others more radical-of an original idea. It is a game of evolution. " I find myself actually creating many variations of something I'm working on before I choose the final one or two to move forward with.

"I HAVE LEARNED, AS A RULE OF THUMB, NEVER TO ASK WHETHER YOU CAN DO SOMETHING. SAY, INSTEAD, THAT YOU ARE DOING IT. THEN FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT. THE MOST REMARKABLE THINGS FOLLOW."

- Julia Cameron - artist, poet, playwright, novelist, filmmaker, composer, author, and journalist.

I am inspired by Julias quote daily because I always use to question whether or not I can make something similar to someone's work that I admire. I started to just do it and figure out my own way of creating something similar. I feel as a digital artist this has helped me grow and learn new things about myself in the process.

FEIMO

I am inspired by FEIMO's work because she creates the most beautiful characters in photoshop. Her lighting and attention to detail is admirable. I hope to create artwork like her one day that I can add into my illustrations for future design projects.

BENJAMIN - RYKY

Ryky is inspiring to me because his use of colors and extreme attention to detail in his photoshop works is truly remarkable. I really love how vivid his works are. They're very intricate but they're also very easy to follow. I love the feelings you get from seeing his galaxy skies and dark aspects.

MUSIC

My biggest influence

Music really helps me get into the zone when concentrating and thinking of what to make for a design. It helps me power through the initial thought process. I like to listen to all music depending on the type of design I'm working on. While I work on my self-analysis I have been mostly listening to dubstep/EDM. Since a lot of songs don't have much lyrics but powerful beats it helps me focus on the current task and it actually keeps me from staying in one mood.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?

Where do you see yourself in the design profession?

I see myself working at the New Mexico Film Studios working on graphics for sets in TV shows and Films. I can also see myself making the ads or movie posters for promotional content for films possibly. When I graduate I hope to start working on set with a lead graphic designer so I can start to learn the process in which their graphics are made on set. I want to show that I know my worth and can work hard to capture the small and large details that make a show and movie come together.

Self-Analysis: About

STRENGTHS

EFFICIENT

When it comes to my work I am very efficient. I never waste time and I have actually always ended up with nothing to do because I work smart and in an order that keeps me on the task at hand without mistakes.

EXTREME ATTENTION TO DETAIL

This is a huge strength and I really don't see it as a weakness like I have had some people express to me in the past. In design I feel it's very important to be able to explain how each part of your work is directly related to it.

KNOWING MY LIMITATIONS

I generally know how long something will take me to make but I also know that sometimes some projects will take a lot longer or will challenge me to where I may need help. There are times when I've made things for people and had to express that it will take me time to work it out because it is a very intricate piece.

Self-Analysis: FAQ

WEAKNESSES

PERFECTIONIST

I sometimes hate that I am a perfectionist because it causes me to thinking harder on ways to make something look even better than it does when, in actuality it could be perfect as it is already. I need to learn to let things go sometimes.

MARKETING MYSELF

It's a very uncomfortable thing for me to talk about myself to others, who I know I can make designs for but I don't like to "toot my own horn," so to speak. I feel it makes me look like I'm a narcissist.

BRINGING MY IMAGINATION TO LIFE

I can imagine in full color exactly what I want to create but I have the hardest time trying to recreate what I am imagining. I really want to work on this because I know I am capable of so much more than I am currently.

Self-Analysis: FAQ

HOW WELL DOES YOUR PORTFOLIO MATCH WHAT IT IS YOU WANT TO DO IN YOUR CAREER?

WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOUR PORTFOLIO IS LACKING?

HOW WILL YOU WORK TO ENHANCE YOUR PORTFOLIO THIS TERM?

I personally feel like my portfolio has been coming together quite well. I believe it does match what I want to do as a career but I really wish I would make more time to just make random works of art and designs to add to my portfolio. I also need to finish adding advertisements and the magazine I made while working as the Advertising Manager at a news paper.

Variety. I feel I do not have enough work to show how expansive my knowledge is as a designer.

I will enhance my portfolio by working hard on assignments we go over and making sure I show my knowledge of CRAP. I want to ensure that I've covered my bases on what I am best with.
